Chris26 Posted September 2, 2022 Posted September 2, 2022 I have tried to put text inside a box. I have a very long document that will get longer so I need the text and the box to float. I tried a manual box with the box tool and a subtle shade inside around the paragraph and then sent the coloured box to the back. . Then applied float. But this did not work as the box then hid the text. I then tried the text styles and applied 'Box'. But quickly discovered no way to edit this even after looking alll over help and the drop down menus. The text styles pull out box revealed nothing. So I am lost now. Please could someone tell me how to float the box with the document with the text inside it ? Thankyoiu Chris. You could just style the Text Frame instead of adding an extra box, but that depends on what you're going for. 44 minutes ago, Chris26 said: how to float the box with the document with the text inside it ? What happens if you group the text and the box together and then float that group? Chris26 1 Quote

Here is something done with Paragraph styles box of text.afpub There are two versions of boxed text, take a look and see how I set up the decorations. This text is part of the regular text flow. If you want the text to be in a box then you'll need to have a separate Text Frame and pin it into the text, and have a Text Wrap applied to the "text box" text frame. box of text v2 .afpub Chris26 1 Quote Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6 Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear. Chris26 Posted September 2, 2022 Author Posted September 2, 2022 Hallo prophet, thanks you for your input, but I went straight to Old Bruce hope you don't mind. Hallo Old Bruce, I used your second exampe as I understood it quite quickly. I did not think to use a text frame within a text frame, that was my downfall, however I will look at your first example sometime. I found the text styles palette with the option of a BOX a bit confusing since it made no sense how to edit it. Anyway I really can not see how you got that box within your frame or what on earth to do with it? I have taken a good look at your 'Box of Text' the first one. I am afraid after 10 minutes nothing there makes any sense to me at all. I look everywhere to work out how you did it. I can not find anyway to edit the box, I can not see how any of the text style menus can do this? Though I have used text styles - since these are logical. BUt the whole box thing seriously frustrates me. Sorry. You'll need to check out the Spacing section and the Decorations section. The spacing has offsets to make the entire paragraph narrower, this is the 'box' and the text inside the box. The Decorations sections makes the 'box' I set things up so it is both taller and wider than the text on its own. Paragraph 'size' 'Box' sizing. ======================== 1 hour ago, Chris26 said: Hallo Old Bruce, I used your second exampe as I understood it quite quickly. ... Anyway I really can not see how you got that box within your frame or what on earth to do with it? I just drew a separate Text Frame and then pasted the text I wanted into it. Then I switched to the Move tool and dragged it over the big main text frame. I set the Text wrap so the text in the big frame would flow around it. I used the Text Frame panel to set the background colour and the Insets so the text would not be right to the edges. I could have set a separate stroke around the frame by using the stroke colour and width, these are right under the light blue Fill: section. ============================== Using the second method I could also Pin the small text frame to a particular place in the bigger frame's text flow but that is another can of worms. This stuff took me quite a while to come to grips with. I personally like all the different options available in Publisher but some times I will be using the wrong method and get frustrated because "It is not working ! ! !"
