Copy/move a selection with short cut keys

Hi,

I used photoshop previously and could make a selection then press ctrl +alt (i think it was) this allowed movement of copied pixels without the need to copy paste. Is this possible in AP or is there another way to achieve the same? Many thanks

I think what you want to do is make the selection and then switch to the move tool (the Arrow). This will allow you to move the selection and the pixels in that selection.

Thanks Bruce, I can do that one but it leaves a blank area when moved. I would like to move the selection as a copy and leave the original area intact

Then Copy and Paste is the only thing I can come up with. It is what I use. 

Caveat: This will of course give you a new layer.

Also, should I take the plunge and buy AP or go back to PS, functionality seems a bit long winded but maybe because I was used to PS. Please advise.

I would use the search function here on the forum and search for the term PhotoShop and then read all the threads that address the type of work you do. There are many reasons to not switch to Affinity and I don't know what you are doing with PhotoShop or Affinity Photo.

Off the top of my head is the way raw files are developed, people from Adobe are rightly upset that there is no way of keeping a list is edits performed on their raw files, meaning they cannot go back and tweak the settings. There is also no Exporting Text as Text to photoshop file formats, it gets rasterized. So if you are working with text and other people who use Photoshop you're out of luck.

A ctrl-J/cmd-J should combine the copy/paste operation here into one cmd-operation, as far as a layer is previously selected. Which of course will also yield to a new layer then.

V_Kyr.....that's what I was looking for thank you for the ctrl-J. how long have you been using Affinity Photo and probably PS?

I've used PS/PSE long time in the pasts but more occasonally & on demand, then around ~2017 or so have switched over to APh/ADe.

Do you know if there's a list of keyboard shortcuts for AP, makes things quick and easy rather than menus. As you know PS, is a great tool, I started way back with ver 2.5 I think it was but sadly the price is now ridiculous and would now only use occasionally. Do you find functionality of AP on par with PS

The online help has a list of the defaults for Macs, for example https://affinity.help/photo/en-US.lproj/pages/Workspace/shortcuts.html for the US English Keyboard shortcuts topic. Same thing is available through the built-in Help (via Help > Affinity Photo Help) as one of the last entries in the contents, & it should (I think!) have the Windows-specific ones if you are running that OS.

Did you try opening the Help through Help > Affinity Photo Help & if necessary clicking on the icon to display the help topics list (looks like 3 lines in the Mac version), & see if you have an item there named "Keyboard shortcuts?" If so click on that.

See the online help and there the keyboard shortcuts overview @R C-R pointed to, or take a look at and download ...
