Wheel of death when trying to "Save" new documents or "Save As" existing documents or "Export" any documents

Hi team,

I've migrated from a MacBook Pro Intel to a Mac Studio M1 Max 32GB with MacOS Monterey 12.5.1.

I'm running Affinity Photo 1.10.5.

Unfortunately I've got the colourful wheel of death for exactly 1 minute, then nothing happens (and the application doesn't crash), when:

  • I try to "Save" a new document,
  • I try to "Save As" an existing document,
  • I try to "Export" a new or an existing document.

I've restarted the application and my Mac but the issue is still there.

This is really frustrating and is of course preventing me to use the app...

Thanks in advance for your help.

Best regards.

Hi FredSing, welcome to the forums.

I'd like to ask a few questions just to try and narrow down the issue

If you have any of the other Affinity apps, is it affecting those?

Do you have any symptoms like this outside of Affinity Software?

Are you saving to a network drive or external drive?

Have you tried disabling Metal hardware acceleration (Preferences > Performance)

Have you tried running your OS Disk utility to see if there are any Drive errors (sometimes the drives catalogue file can become corrupted and may need to be rebuilt, can occur when software forces an unexpected shutdown).

Hi Lee,

I don't have other Affinity app so unfortunately can't try this. Only Affinity photo was affected.

I reinstalled the app and it's now working! So all good now but still a strange behaviour that struck me some time.

Thank you team!
