crash on close

AF hangs whenever I try to close a document.

I have a almost 50GB of open HD space running on a last generation intel MB Pro with 16GB of RAM. The program has become almost unusable because of the large number of open files that I cannot close.

Program hangs on quit occasionally.

I'm a former Tech Support Mgr for a software developer and have spent many an hour trying to figure this one out but to no avail. Affinity seems to be spooling the stack of files to save recovery files and the programs hangs immediately - within seconds of the close command.

I'm using AF exclusively for astrophotography so there may be something unique with FIT files.

I don't see anyone else with this problem so I don't know if this is unique with my system

One thing you can try is to start Photo while holding down the control key. A dialog will pop up, deselect all and just select the "Don't Restore Window and Documents" checkbox followed by the "Clear" button.

Welcome to the Affinity Forums

Sorry to hear you're having trouble! I'd like to see if your mac is generating any crash or 'hang' logs, as these may provide further information as to the cause of this.

Please go to Applications > Utilities and open the Console app. Crash Reports from our apps can be found in the User Reports section. You can Right Click the required Crash Report and select Reveal in Finder, then attach a copy of any reports to your reply here for me. 

Secondly, I agree that a reset of the app is a good idea here, as it's possible a file is incorrectly cached in between open & closed, causing this issue when closing the Affinity app.

You can reset your app back to its default settings by holding down the CTRL key while launching the app. When the Clear User Data window appears, click Select All and then Clear. The app will now open.

Be aware that resetting your app back to its default settings will lose any custom settings such as keyboard shortcuts and brushes etc. To backup such settings before resetting the app, please watch our Affinity Backing up app resources and factory reset video here -
