RichardDS
This is my first time using Affinity Publisher for a 6x9”book cover, which has a rushed 8/30 deadline. I followed all the printer’s design guidelines (300 dpi, CMYK, fonts embedded, etc.) using their print-ready 12x17” PDF template. All the artwork is inside the crop marks on the bottom-layer template’s (Affinity’s bleed and crop settings are off). The printer says files must be PDF/X-1a:2001 compliant in Acrobat 6 Professional or PDF/X-3-:2002 (Acrobat 7 or above) using InDesign’s Adobe PDF Preset for those settings. My generated PDF’s Document Property reports “PDF version: 1.7 (acrobat 8.x) “ and Producer: PDFlib+PDI 9.3.1-I (Win32)”. Am I compliant? Staff stokerg Posted August 30, 2022 Staff Share Posted August 30, 2022 Hi @RichardDSand Welcome to the Forums, Affinity can't produce a PDF/X-1a:2001, but can export as PDF/X-1a:2003 and PDF/X-3:2003. If you are using Ingram Spark for the Printing, then as confirmed here they can accept a PDF/X-1a:2003 file which you can select from the PDF Export window in Affinity. With anything like this, it's always best to speak to the print shop and see if they can accept your currently export PDF or any of the 2 mentioned above
RichardDS
Thanks, tremendously helpful. Yes, it’s for Ingram Spark. As suggested, I’ve changed specs to PDF/X-1a:2003. Before the change, the book’s author uploaded the earlier version to which the printer responded: “PDF CONTAINS ICC COLOR PROFILES: We request files with no color profiles assigned. Please convert all colors to grayscale for black and white images, or CMYK for color images and remove all color profiles. Saving a new PDF with the default setting of PDF/X-1a:2001 will address the issue. For best results, please correct the issue(s) listed. You may refer to the File Creation Guide for further instructions on creating a compliant PDF. Choosing to proceed may result in a color shift from the file submitted.” Attached are screen captures from Affinity Publisher of my new PDF/X-1a:2003 export and from the Nitro Pro of the PDF document properties. Note that I used TrueType fonts (embedded). Should I have any concern on that end? Thanks again for you help!
