Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

This is not a bug, as far as I know, but simply the way macOS and its applications work.

You only closed the open document, not the application itself. If you look at the menu at the top of the screen, it shows that Affinity Photo is still active. You can use the menu actions to Close (Quit?) Affinity itself, or to create a new document, or open an existing one.

If the application is still active, I should be able to open it from the dock.
But it doesn't work.

You could switch to it from another sonication by using the dock. However, as the menu shows it's the currently active application. That's why the dock doesn't work; you're already there.

If you Open or switch to a different application, then the dock will work as you expect.

The application is not going to bring up an empty view (which you closed) it is going to wait for you to ask it to do something. Make a new file by using Command + New or the File menu. Or open a document by using Command + O or the File menu.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

I think this new Feature Request may be relevant, too:

See attachment. that's why I think there is some issue with Affinity Photo. Most apps will show the startup window (or home screen) after you close it and try to open it again, even if you didn't do anything before.

But Affinity Photo wouldn't.

But you did not close the application. You closed one of the documents it had open.

It's an ugly-ish solution to bringing back up the app with just a menu context, but iirc PS worked similarly. It just had toolbars so it looked like more was going on. I'm jealous. I wish we could go background-less in Windows. So zen.
