I am creating a pattern and have drawn the flowers as vectors. When I go to save the finished pattern some layers are missing when I reopen the file. I think I have too many layers/ curves? When I open in photoshop I have 7999 layers. As you can see in the first image every flower is made up of lots of layers, is there a way to flatten each flower into one layer while keeping it vector (I do not want to rasterise as I want to be able to resize). I have tried to  merge some curves together, but when I save and reopen it looks like the last 2 images, when lines overlap it has gone transparent?? Help.

It sounds like you may be working with a PSD file?

In that case, if I remember correctly the PSD file format has a limit of 7999 layers/objects. If you try to Export a PSD file on the desktop there's a warning if you exceed that number of layers. Perhaps that warning is not present on iPad? Or, perhaps, if you're Openind and then Saving an existing PSD file, the warning is missing there?

You can merge vector layers by selecting the first layer, two finger tap the last layer then use the merge layers command. As you can see it is still a vector layer.

Yes, I am trying to save as a PSD file, I guessed the problem was too many layers, so trying to figure out how I can reduce the layers while keeping it a vector file.

@Hannah Inglis you would need to only merge curves of the same colour to avoid colour changes unfortunately,

Thank you, I tried that too,  but this happened when I reopened the file. Where curves overlapped they went transparent. No idea why.

Hi Hannah, The white gaps in your lines look like where a curve is overlapping with itself. With the node tool selected if you select the curve that contains these white gapes can you see the path overlapping itself? It may be handy if we had a copy of the file to look into this further with if possible please upload a copy of it to the following DropBox link.

Yes it’s where they overlap. I’ve now tried selecting the same colour curves, going to geometry and add to merge curves. I didn’t have this problem then, but still want to know if there is a way to make this whole flower one layer without affecting how it looks and keeping it in vector.
