askAll Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 Hi, I'm trying to cut out a shape from another shape but it's not working with the pen tool. Works fine with an elipse or triangle. What am I missing ? Thank you Quote
prophet Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 Try switching the Winding Direction under Layer > Fill Mode Quote

I've also tried the "Use fill" in pen tool but does not help. I don't know what's different from a shape since a shape is working with subtract. Quote
prophet Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 Can you share your file? It may help to examine that rather than relying on a screen cap video. Quote

iconoclast Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 Possibly the shape is not closed. Drag the mouse over the start- and endpoint to select both and press the button to close the curve. Old Bruce 1 Quote

Nope it's closed and Ok! - Instead the OP has to ... ... select both relevant curves (I've recolored those as green and blue filled curves in the shown screencast for a better visual demonstration here) ... perform the geometrical subtract on the two selected curves ... and afterwards has to perform for/on the resulting curve a "Layer > Fill Mode > Alternate (Even-Odd)" operation ScreenCapture1.mp4 askAll 1 Quote ☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan ☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2
