I think that this is a Word field code. There should be an option in Word to to toggle field codes on or off. Make sure it is set to off before copying the text.

AFAIK (It's been a while since I've used Word!) If you turn off displaying field codes, it should just display the actual text instead of the field codes.

<alt>F9 toggles field codes however this is a display feature in Word, the fields are not copied only their values

e.g. if I copy

and paste it into any other program then it appears as
