Terese Posted August 24, 2022 Posted August 24, 2022 Hi I need assistance, I am learning to use the stitching tool, I have shot the photos in RAW + JPEG, as part of a masterclass. When I load the photos they seem to convert to TIFF from RAW when I attempt to use the stitch button nothing works. Quote
Dan C Posted August 24, 2022 Posted August 24, 2022 Hi @Terese, Welcome to the Affinity Forums Usually, if the Stitch option doesn't seem to perform any action in this dialog it means the app has been unable to find sufficient overlap between your 2 images. We recommend having around 30% overlap for the best results here. Are you able to attach a copy of the RAW/TIFF files you're trying to stitch to your reply here, so I can look into this further for you? Many thanks in advance! Quote
Terese Posted August 24, 2022 Author Posted August 24, 2022 These are some samples of photos I am trying to stitch together. The first 3 photos I am attempting to put the Milky Way above the pier. the other I would like the Milky Way above the boat. any help will be greatly appreciated Terese Quote
Dan C Posted August 24, 2022 Posted August 24, 2022 Many thanks for providing these for me! There appears to be enough overlap in the set of 3 images with the sailing boat, as this has 'stitched' together as expected for me: However, the set of 3 images with the Pier do not have enough (or seemingly any) overlap of the tree in the top right of the image, and therefore the Affinity app can't stitch these images together. It did however stitch the 2 sky images from the set, as there was sufficient overlap present: I'd recommend using the full set of 3 images, rather than just 2 in order for the app to stitch the sailing boat set. Unfortunately the pier set will need manually collating as the Affinity app isn't able to stitch the tree section of the images together, as there appears to be a section missing. I hope this clears things up Quote
Terese Posted August 24, 2022 Author Posted August 24, 2022 Thank you, I have once again added the 3 photos, in the exact same order and touched the stitch button and still it hasn’t worked, I have followed the step by step process exactly. the difference I see is that my screen is showing tiff and the one you returned to me shows numbers like a photo description. Is the something I am missing or doing incorrectly. Thank you Terese Quote
Dan C Posted August 24, 2022 Posted August 24, 2022 Thanks for letting me know and I'm sorry to hear this - the images you uploaded above are .JPEG files, and these were the ones used in the successful stitches. I note you mention RAW files, but they appear to be added as .TIFF in your screenshots. Can you please confirm what location you are importing these images from? (ie a local folder, a cloud location or from the Apple Photos app) If possible, a quick screen recording showing your workflow would help me to replicate this issue, if you're unsure how to take a screen recording, please check out our FAQ linked below - Many thanks once again! Terese Posted August 24, 2022 Author Posted August 24, 2022 I am drawing the photos directly from my photos file as I haven’t as yet made a seperate file for the last photography session. Hopefully I have managed to capture the workflow. I admit to being a novice keen to learn. I download my photos from my Nikon D7500 directly to my IPad into my photos, then I usually create an album and put the photos in the alb IMG_9848.MOV Terese Quote

It’s also generally quite helpful to have ‘Show touches’ turned on in the app preferences, so that we can see where you’re tapping on the screen. Dan C Posted August 24, 2022 Posted August 24, 2022 Many thanks for providing that for me! I've downloaded a sample RAW file from the Nikon D7500, imported this into my Apple Photos library and then opened this image within the Panorama dialog, where it appears as .nef file, as expected. Please open the iPad Settings app, then scroll down the left hand list and select 'Photos' - can you please confirm if you have 'Optimise iPad Storage' or 'Download and Keep Originals' enabled here? I'd also like to request a copy of the RAW files themselves that you've imported into Apple Photos. Can you please upload these .nef files to the below link for me? https://www.dropbox.com/request/MvFCNwwQGqtAKtzKfQ2N Once uploaded, please reply here to let me know! Quote
Terese Posted August 24, 2022 Author Posted August 24, 2022 Hi Dan I have uploaded the 3 files as requested. Terese Quote
Terese Posted August 24, 2022 Author Posted August 24, 2022 I have attached a screenshot of my settings. Quote
Dan C Posted August 24, 2022 Posted August 24, 2022 Thanks for uploading these, however the files uploaded are the same .JPEG files that you've provided above and not .nef RAW files. Are you able to try uploading these directly from your camera, so I have the RAW files for testing? In regards to your Settings, try changing this to Download and Keep Originals and then try importing the images into the Panorama dialog once again. Are these now loaded as .nef files here please? Terese Posted August 24, 2022 Author Posted August 24, 2022 Hi Dan, I no longer have the RAW photos on my camera as I have deleted them from the SD card. The photos show RAW + JPEG right at the top and they show up in my RAW folder in photos. When the photos were shot last Friday night, they were done so using the RAW+JPEG setting. Quote
Dan C Posted August 24, 2022 Posted August 24, 2022 Thanks for letting me know, however these above images are again .JPEG versions which are working correctly for me. Lets try a slightly different approach - open Affinity Photo and select 'Import From Photos' under the New Document section, now select one of these images from your Photos Library. This should then open the singular RAW file in Affinity, into the Develop Persona. Does following this method open the image within this Persona, or do you find it opens in the Photo Persona? If they correctly open in the Develop Persona, I'd recommend developing the image without making changes, then exporting to .TIFF Repeat this process with the other 2 RAW files, then try stitching the .TIFF files you've just exported. Do these now correctly stitch for you please? Quote
Terese Posted August 24, 2022 Author Posted August 24, 2022 I am sorry but I honestly don’t understand any of this, I will go out tomorrow evening an take some desired shots and see if I can send some RAW after that from the camera. I am really struggling with this program, it is very late here in Australia so I will leave it for tonight. Thank you for trying to assist me. Terese Quote
