I want to get rid of the white areas and make those areas clear (see through). The idea is that I can get a scene and lay the badge shape over it so I can see what is delineated by the badge.I have tried the magic peb and deleted the whit areas but still they remain opaque, (solid white) which obscures most of the underlying scene. By the way, I use Powerpoint to manipulate the immages over one another. I am starting to think I am out of my depth being 76 with the right side of my brain dead after a stroke

What app or you using, Photo or Designer? Is your document using a Transparent Background?  If not, then what you'll see is the canvas, and it appears as though as your shape is opaque.

In Designer, go to Document Setup-Color, check the box beside Transparent Background.

In Photo, go to Document and select the Transparent Background.

Are you treating the surface area of the badge like a ‘window ‘? And is it important to maintain the exact appearance of the original scanned drawing of the badge?

It might have been better to keep the discussion all in one place by posting to your original thread instead of creating a new one.

Anyway, since we’re here, are you trying to do something like the image below (where the checkerboard areas are transparent)?
