Eksitnl
Version: 1.10.5 Platform: Windows reproduction path: just search for anything in the asset panel with more then 500 assets Searching for anything in the asset panel is very slow. Every character i type makes ui slow and unresponsive until it is done filtering the asset view. This happens on a vanilla install, searching through an asset pack of about 3000 icons in total. The default iOS 12 pack searches faster (still not perfect, i actually expect this pack to always be snappy and instant and even here i get stuttering every now and then when typing in the search box or hold backspace to clear), and contains much less icons, which leads me to believe that the search declines rapidly when on increased size asset packs. Even just switching from iOS 12 to my icon pack is slow. While this is to be expected to a certain degree, this is much slower then i would expect most modern software to search through things on a filesystem or local database. The assets.propcol file is about 14MB, my SSD has read / write speeds around 2000mb/s and i have a 6 core, 12 thread CPU that runs +3ghz. While i dont know how searching is implemented in affinity designer, im sure it can be made faster and be made to work better with more assets. Am i just unlucky, have something weird going on, or is this a real problem that can be worked on? Thanks.
Dan C
Hi @Eksitnl, Welcome to the Affinity Forums Sorry to hear you're having trouble! I'd like to request a copy of your assets.procol file, to try and replicate this issue here. Can you please upload this to the below link for me: https://www.dropbox.com/request/daymHhlEU6yzQGLedKcn Once uploaded, please reply here to let me know - can you also please confirm your RAM capacity and speed? As Assets are rather RAM reliant so I'd like to try on a similar spec'd machine here. Many thanks in advance!
Eksitnl
Thanks for the reply and help. Certainly, I've tried to upload the file but it seems the dropbox link is not valid. The RAM specs on the machine are: Memory: 16GB Speed: 3200mhz Timings: 16/18/
Dan C
Thanks for confirming that for me. My sincerest apologies, I'm not quite sure what happened there! Please try once again and it should work as expected now
Eksitnl
No problem, done!
Dan C
Many thanks for providing that for me! I can confirm I'm able to replicate this issue internally using your file, I have tried changing a few application settings however these have unfortunately not changed the behaviour and therefore I'm logging this as a bug with our developers now. I hope this helps
