Alfred
Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, @phyce. The subject has been discussed here on numerous occasions. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/search/&tags=webp&sortby=newest Quote Alfred Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 for Windows • Windows 10 Home/Pro Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 for iPad • iPadOS 17.4.1 (iPad 7th gen)
phyce
So the devs mentioned about implementing exporting webp in 2015, but still no signs of it. How long can it take? Will it happen in our lifetime?

I have learned over the years (decades) that if a feature is not present in a piece of software I am best served by thinking it will never be added. I then immediatly search for a solution elsewhere rather than waiting and hoping. phyce
For sure! Finding the solution elsewhere is inevitable in a situation like this. But I believe that letting the developers know that a feature is wanted by people will hopefully motivate them to get that feature done sooner. phyce
Considering that reading webp files already works, maybe using a little bit of inspiration from GIMP source code which does have this feature, I can't imagine this taking too long to implement. https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp I can imagine this feature would save a lot of time to a lot of people. Back to using GIMP for now... Edited August 21, 2022 by phyce spelling

phyce
Thank you for that! It's great, that's actually an even better solution than GIMP. Also open source! More code inspiration for the devs
PaulEC
Until webp (and other formats like BMP) are supported by Affinity, one of the easiest ways to get them is to use Irfanview or XNConvert (both free). If you need to process a number of files, rather than converting them one at a time, just do a batch conversion. phyce 1 Quote Acer XC-895 : Core i5-10400 Hexa-core 2.90 GHz : 32GB RAM : Intel UHD Graphics 630 : Windows 10 Home Affinity Publisher 2 : Affinity Photo 2 : Affinity Designer 2 : (latest release versions) on desktop and iPad

However, the licence fee was just ten euros the last time I checked. Still use it every day, and it has excellent batch processing. phyce and Alfred
phyce
I love irfanview. I mostly use it as an image viewer though. Glad to hear that there's actually other people out there who love it as well, I don't think I actually know any people who use it.
