I am working on a larger document in Affinity Publisher. Affinity has been crashing pretty much every time I try to do something. I even started deleting pages and reducing the DPI to try to reduce the file size and now it is crashing even more to the point where I cannot even work on it. It crashes as soon as I open it. Is there anyway to repair this file or are there any known fixes? I have been working on this file for about 2 weeks and do not want to lose all of this work. Thanks!

Welcome to the forums @3P Designs

The first thing you can try is to create a new document with the same page/spread sizes/settings as the original document and then use menu “Document → Add Pages from File” and see if that gets you up-and-running.

If your original document has a right-facing first page then give the new document 2 pages before adding the pages from the file after page 2, then, if adding the pages works, delete the two pages from the start. That might help alleviate possible layout issues.

Thank you for the suggestion @GarryP! I just tried this and it did work. However, none of my groups came over, text came over as curves, and it just appears very messy. It is a 600+ page document, so it would take a long time to fix everything.

@NathanC I am sending through the file now. Thanks for your help! I am using Windows 11.

I didn't find an issue with the layer structure/text as curves when adding your file pages via  'Add pages from file', I'll privately send you a copy of the file from my result the resources will need re-linking, however.

The file is causing some CPU stress which was causing the occasional freezes which did recover, which is possibly related to the significant amount of FX on some of the pages objects.

See how it goes with the copy of the file i've sent.

Unfortunately, this file is still crashing Affinity. It is not just freezing, it is completely shutting down the program. Is it just that the file is too large or could there be another issue?

It may be worth unchecking Hardware Acceleration under Edit > Preferences > Performance and restarting Publisher if it hasn't been done already to see if this improves stability in the file.

I did that and so far so good. It is not crashing and I can actually do some stuff in the file. Crossing my fingers!

Thanks for your help! I will reach out if I have anymore issues with it.
