Dear AD support and development

I just saw Affinity Designer was using 12 GB of RAM with only 4 small files open. This was causing a lot of swaps to the SSD in my computer, and doesn't seem at all reasonable given that it was running in the background and the files are so small (MBs each). The swaps are bad because they add unnecessary wear to the SSD (which will fail after a certain amount of read / write cycles). They also will slow down my system.

I think there is a serious memory leak / bug causing this. Please update and fix.

Hi McIllustrator,

Welcome to the forums :)

Please could you tell me which version of Mac OS and which version of Designer you are using? It may also be handy if you could include a screen recording showing only a small number of files open in Affinity but a large amount of RAM being used in Activity Monitor. It may also help if you could provide a copy of your performance settings within the apps preferences.

Thanks
C

Hi Callum,

I don't have a screenshot. I closed affinity as soon as I saw the memory usage.

MacOS Monterey 12.5,  Affinity designer appears to be 1.10.5

I didn't know about performance settings. I didn't adjust these. They appear to allow affinity to use up to 16 GB ram (all my unified ram). See below.

Thanks,

Joel
