Most would use the new version, only using ver 1 if absolutely necessary to amend an existing file for compatibility. Everything I have seen makes APub for ipad this year and not next year as you suggest. Serif have ruled out subscription model that many time I wonder why people still think it is an option for them. It would have to be a massive U-turn. PaulEC and Kaleb Cadle

It would have to be a massive U-turn. I think switching to a subscription only model would break their neck. Not that I personally wouldn't accept a subscription model, since this is part of my daily work software. And if it was worth the price, I would pay it. But seeing the shitstorm companies face when switching to a subscription, and how quickly they can be turned from saint to devil itself by the "community", this would plunge Affintiy/Serif into the tartarus of "yet another ex-Adobe-competitor-wannabe software". Celsys just had to face the storm after switching to a (reasonable in my eyes) subscription model. I guess they will cope with it, because their Clip Studio Paint is too good and their userbase is really large. It's a question of whether the Affinity user base is large enough for Serif to deal with the sure loss of disappointed and resentful users. Thus I don't think Serif is even seriously thinking about moving to the subscription model.

I remember the days when after 'in house' betas they sent out to registered 'beta testers', fixed the bugs then the program went on sale. We purchased, waited 3 days for the discs in the post and that was basically it until the upgrade version came out. I bought one program, found a 'bug' within days, reported it and it was fixed within 24 hours but I had to wait 3 days for the bug fixed version discs to arrive in the post. Nowadays it seems that because most programs are download versions, update can be done daily (or more often it needs be), and programs can even 'report bugs' without user intervention that beta testing can be large scale over the customer base (well it seems that way with some programs & operating systems). Are (not in house) beta testers really needed/used as much these days?
