RichardMH
Tried uploading a tiff at your size. Default settings and still with the banding. geran-de-klerk-wYy3rvvgjAU-unsplashgigapixel-low_res-width-10236px.tif
Hangman
If we had access to the original RAW file there would be a lot more flexiblity. The starting point is a lossy JPEG and the original file uses the C2 ICC Profile which as far as I can tell is something developed by facebook to reduce file sizes even further, so it's perhaps not surprising about the banding, though having played a bit more, this version doesn't seem too bad but I'd still be inclined to reject this image and find a better original source image... bk_chelly
@Hangman Yes, I agree. I have debated reaching out to the photographer and asking for the original image source from him. Here is another example from a photographer from our publication department. He took this with his own camera and gave me the original file. I'm assuming that I could print this at 24x36 with no blurriness/pixelation?

As uploaded it is a JPEG & I think it is only around 1000 px wide, but that could just be how the forum software processes it or the way I extracted it from the forum page. For something like this, it might be best to zip the original file & upload that.... The lion image with its lots of details shows the strengths of GigaPixel AI: It smoothens contours in the upscaling process & reduces the pixelated artefacts without causing blurriness. Also PhotoZoom smoothens edges but less clear than GigaPixel AI. APhoto shows the pixelated artefacts most obvious. nickbatz
It's highly dependent on the image you're sharpening. Gigapixel AI recognizes things, and when it does it's pretty great. It can produce artifacts, which are usually bad but I've also used them to creative effect. RichardMH
