Larry Adamache
when opening a file, the user interface changes on its own from light to dark also, gray level sliders don't do anything Win 11 OS
Alfred
Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, Larry. Do you get the same result regardless of whether you use the ‘Open…’ command on the File menu or double-click on a file in an Explorer window? If you start with the dark UI, does it remain dark or does it also switch to the alternative state? Which Affinity app(s) are you using? Larry Adamache
Thanks for the reply. Using Affinity Photo UI goes dark with both Open command or Double click in explorer. When I close the file, UI goes back to light. This doesn't happen when I start in dark UI - it stays dark when file is opened. Gray sliders don't work in dark UI either. Alfred
Thanks for the further details. I don’t use Windows 11, so I’ll leave the rest of this discussion to someone who does. Larry Adamache
Thanks to all who replied. I reset to factory settings and it appears to have solved the problem. I wonder why re-installing the software didn't do the same? I guess I will need to be careful when changing settings so if it happens again I will know which setting was the cause. Winsome
Reinstalling doesn't always wipe user settings - but reinstalls and reconfigures program settings. It probably should also should offer to reset user settings - reinstalling is after all usually performed to solve issues that can be caused by program setting issues or user setting errors. Who knows what the root cause is, after all. Quite a few settings have their own file (.dat or .propcol) in a user system folder (library or app data). For those which get their modification date changed by the app only if you changed them you can look for those in case the issue happens again. R C-R
3 hours ago, Larry Adamache said: I wonder why re-installing the software didn't do the same? Like with a lot of apps besides the Affinity ones, after an app is installed & run by a user, various support files & folders are created somewhere in that user's Home folder to store all the user-specific data the app will use when run by that user. Since there can be multiple users, each with their own home folder & user-specific data, reinstalling the app itself does not affect that, in part because it would affect other users & in part because if the app itself has sustained damage or corruption of any of its component files, reinstalling the app to fix that should not wipe out any of that user-specific data.
