Selecting in the layers list does completely different things

Recommended Posts

Affinity Designer 1.10.5 on Windows 10

Steps to reproduce:

  • Select an object in the drawing area by clicking once on it
  • Press the Shift key and click on another object in the layers list, just a few objects above or below the first selected object, in the same layer

Expected result:

  • All objects in the layers list between the first and last are selected.

Actual result:

  • Different objects are selected, from the first object, going in the other direction of the list, away from the last clicked list item.
  • Additionally, the last clicked list item has toggled visibility, which is entirely unrelated. (This seems to happen only if the last clicked item was clicked on the box in front of the object name, not when clicked on the object name itself.)

Hi @ygoe,

Both the shift layer selection and the layer visibility issues are currently logged with the developers for resolution, I've added your report for consideration. 🙂

The shift selection issue will typically occur based on where the last manual selection was made in the layers panel, when you go to make a selection on the canvas using the move tool and then shift select in the layers panel, the selection will start on the first layer which was originally manually selected.

Sounds like a focus/selection problem. When an object is selected in the drawing, it is selected in the layers panel, but it's not focused there. So the shift selection base isn't updated properly and remains whereever it was since last year*. To correct this, you should also focus (internally) the single (or maybe even last) selected object from the drawing.

*) or any time long enough to forget it
