The whole depends on (re)using/implementing a good tracing algorithm for both B&W and color tracing, further also with centerline tracing capabilities on demand. - Most better available algorithms here are copyrighted in a way, that they may not be out of the box (re)usable for commercial products without explicite licensing them (like the potrace one, which initially only does B&W and would have to be enhanced for color tracing in terms of color quantisation). - So far I know only of one capable tracing algorithm which might be also commercially reusable, but that one is not written in C/C++ at all.
