ManiacClown
I'm on Affinity Publisher version 1.10.5.1342 and I've created a document into which I've set up master pages with text frames. In the layout I've pasted the text of multiple Google Docs files and it seems that when a word would cause a line break, instead of flowing entirely to the new line the word breaks in the middle of itself, such as "s[break]haded", "can'[break]t", or "sto[break]ps". I haven't enabled any sort of hyphenation, automatic or otherwise. If under Character→Positioning and Transform I check "No break" the text line flows out of the frame. What's causing this and how can I stop it?

If not, there may be a zero-width space (or similar) which is allowing the word to break at that point. ManiacClown
Yes, I do find the breaking words when searching for them. I'd already turned special characters on and I don't see anything where the words break.
walt.farrell
Can you give us a sample .afpub file that shows the problem, and the Google Docs document you pasted in that caused it? ManiacClown
Update: I just figured it out. Very strangely, it was the font I was using, namely Aref Ruqaa, a Google font. I've never seen behavior like that before. Alfred

The Latin characters included in this font are designed to be used within some Arabic text. So there are a number of localizations applied which affect the Latin text. Your odd break issue is probably because the space character is localised when the language applied to the text is Latin - which increases the width of the space, and since the "space" is actually no longer a space character the APub line breaking algorithm probably confused, and so it just breaks it wherever. Basically it is as if you had entered one long line of characters with no spaces. Best WAG I got without seeing the actual doc.
