Hello,
I am trying to get rid of a red hue around hair.
The picture was taken in front of a red background and I was able to get to this point... getting rid of the red hue around the T-Shirt was not too difficult, but the hair is tricky.
I have watched several tutorials but have found nothing that helps to solve this issue adequately.
Thank you for your help.

Hi @Raffiki113,

Welcome to the Affinity Forums :)

It would be easiest to remove this colour fringe when performing the initial background removal, however using the image you've provided I've been able to achieve the following:

  1. Using the Selection Brush Tool, make sure that 'Snap to Edges' on the Context Toolbar is disabled, then create a selection around the red fringing
  2. With this selection active, add a HSL Adjustment
  3. Select the red circle in the HSL adjustment, so that we're only changing the red pixels in the image, and reduce the saturation to -90% and close this dialog
  4. With the selection still active, add a Selective Colour Adjustment
  5. In this dialog, with the Colour dropdown set to Reds, reduce the Magenta slider to -100%
  6. Change the Colour dropdown to Magentas and again reduce the Magenta slider to -100% and close this dialog
  7. Make sure that the HSL Adjustment is above the Selective Colour Adjustment in the Layers Studio, and deselect your selection (ESC).

I hope this helps!

Wow. I am in awe 🙇‍♂️😀
You have no idea how many different ways I tried to get rid of this.

Thank you so much. I learned a lot.

Would you do it any different with the original picture?

This is how I approach these.

  • I use the Selection Tool to create a selection of the person.
  • In Refine Selection, I will make any necessary adjustments, like using the Matte and brushing the outline.
  • Once I get the desired selection, I will use the option of Output> New Layer or New Layer with Mask. The reason for those, they provide Color Decontamination where the other options do not. It seemed to help in your example.
