i have been a long term customer of Serif Pageplus, always updated to the new version.  As its no longer available i need to look at what next - will the Affinity Publisher handle old Pageplus documents and also work with PDF files to edit?

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

No, Publisher will not open PagePlus files. (Nothing except PagePlus will, as far as I know.)

Yes, it will allow editing of PDF files, with some limitations. For example, it cannot use fonts embedded in the PDF. You need to have the fonts installed on your system. But for your purposes, that should not be a problem as you presumably already have those fonts. Also, Publisher lacks some support for older Type 1 fonts, I think.

To work with your old files in Publisher you would need to export them as PDF files and then Open the PDF files in Publisher. This will not be perfect. It will lose Text Styles from the original, for example.

You can download the Trial version of Publisher and play with this for 10 consecutive days to see how it would work.
