No such thing as undesirable side effects..you can do whatever you want in writing the code.. Looks like there is a real issue and a lot of people waiting... I know what you mean but it isn't quite that simple. For example, making Tool icons larger means the Tools panel will need more screen space and possibly a scroll option to make everybody happy, & it will require more storage space for the app if there are several different options for their sizes since the icons are just fixed resolution png or tiff raster files. Certainly not insurmountable obstacles but it is still a balancing act to find something that works well for everyone.
