Hunnicutt Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Forgive me if I am nitpicking, but I've noticed that automatically generated guides are not perfectly aligned to the center. When I go into the guides manager and create a new guide, one is placed in the center of the document, however when I start zooming in, I notice that it's way off from where it should be. Shown above is a guide that was created at 58.5mm, which is the mathematical center of my page, though it's off. I know that one perspective would be to say that at that magnification, it doesn't really make a difference and the guide, for all intents and purposes, is centered. However, I would expect mathematical precision when dropping a guide. Or is the problem and DPI issue on my side of things? Quote
Dan C Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Hi @Hunnicutt, Sorry to see you're having trouble! I can confirm I've created a document with a width of 117mm, then added a vertical guide in the Guide manager, which reports at 58.5mm and when zooming into 92781000%, the guide aligns correctly with the ruler - Can you please confirm for me: Are you using Affinity on Windows or macOS? What version of Affinity is currently running? (Help > About on Windows, Affinity Designer > About on Mac) If you create a new document at 117mm width, does the same issue occur? If you download and open the attached document, how does this display please? Many thanks in advance centered guide.afdesign Hunnicutt 1 Quote

I created a document within Designer of 117, and I can see that it's perfectly centered now. Before, I was opening a PDF special for the project and creating my guides within that. It must be an issue related to that document specifically or the import process. Quote

If you'd like a private upload link for the file, please let me know Yep, definitely. The link to obtain the document can be found here. The PDF I was working with specifically is called "1590XX type enclosure PDF format template." There is a paragraph on the top of the page regarding Affinity, but I believe this is only because the spot colors they want you to use are through AI. This shouldn't affect the PDF document in my estimation. Also, I've created art through Affinity Designer for this sole purpose, and it has worked perfectly. Just wanted to state that to get ahead of questions about that. Quote
Dan C Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 Many thanks for the link provided - I've downloaded and imported this PDF file and I believe this issue is occurring due to the units being converted. PDFs will import into Affinity using 'Points' as the default measurement units, as this is the standard used for PDF files. When converting from the 'Points' measurement to the 'Millimetres', the PDF file imported is actually 117.00016mm in width. This means the guide is technically correct & central in this document, however I will be logging this PDF file with our developers to see if we can improve this in the future to import or convert to a 'rounded' millimetre value, such that the document was exactly 117mm. I hope this helps Hunnicutt 1 Quote
Hunnicutt Posted June 14, 2022 Author Posted June 14, 2022 Yeah, thanks so much for the info! The explanation makes total sense as well for why this is happening. Cheers! Dan C 1 Quote
