Hello, I am having some trouble which I believe is due to a bug but wanted to ask/report about it here.

I am currently just trying to mask out an image for a composit I am about to start on, the picture isn't of the highest quality which makes things a little harder, I had started to mask out the hat when I decided it might be easier if I added a new pixel layer underneath where I was masking and painted it bright pink. When I then wen't to go back onto the layer; 1, I can't select the masking layer, it just selects everything in the group. And 2, for some reason (I assume this is a bug) it refuses to allow me to continue to mask out on that masking layer, insead of the white and black pain brushes allowing me to add or remove from the mask it instead paints either a black or white colour onto the subject. The current workaround I am using is to add a new mask layer, this seemingly works, although when I went back to the hat to add back some of the image I had masked out, I can no longer add anything back as I am on a different masking layer and am unable to select which layer to use. I am using windows 10 and any help would be amazing, thank you!

Note I have recored a short video which hopefully helps, it switched to greyscale, not sure why, but changing it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Welcome to the forums @MilesNorwood

I’ve just tried to do a similar thing to what you are trying to do and it works fine for me – see attached (very-crudely-done) image.
This may be one of those cases where we need to be able to open the document for ourselves to see if we can come up with a solution.
Or it could be one of those case where the document has somehow become confused/corrupted.
Would you be able to share the document in public?
If not, would you be able to share the document with a moderator via a drop-box link if they gave you one?

Thanks for sharing the file.
As you can see in my attached video, I can select the individual Mask Layers.
I am doing this by clicking on the layer thumbnails rather than the layer names.
If, however, I click on the layer name then all of the Mask Layers are selected.
I don’t know if this is expected behaviour or not.

Can you check to see if clicking on the layer thumbnails works for you?

You’re welcome.

Hopefully one of the experts will see this and give some advice on whether selecting the name of a mask layer should select all of the others and maybe give a reason why that’s a good thing (if it indeed is).
