Delimited area filling

Recommended Posts

Hello community,

I miss the possibility to fill areas. And by that I mean without much effort. I realize that what I want is already solvable by workarounds. But I don't want (especially with more complex shapes) to always have to use workarounds. Inkscape offers a tool that automatically detects surfaces and creates a new closed curve with fill color with one click. When I first started working with Affinity Designer, I was hooked. Then when it came to coloring what I had drawn it felt almost impossible for me....

Dear Affinity Team... please add the ability to detect closed areas and fill them.

Greetings Nono

This appears to be a duplicate of those threads which are asking for a "Shape Builder" tool.

Not really, this is about colouring areas. There is some software which will allow me to fill only the top half of the yellow ellipse with a third colour (or the pink colour).

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4
Affinity Designer 2.4.1 | Affinity Photo 2.4.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.1 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Yes, if I use that tool in Inkscape, it works by adding a new object which is the shape of the filled area, and setting its fill color to match.

If that shape were then cut out of the original, would that not in effect give you a shape builder tool?

This is essentially a variation of the shape builder, which adds the area as a new shape on top instead of breaking the old one, and which sets the fill color in the same operation...  so to implement this wouldn't be all that different from implementing the shape builder?
