chasm Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 Hi all, I'm trying t chanage the backgrund colir ion Apub. I've Goolged this but none of the resultss work. This is what I see when I drag a png file into it. It doesn't display any Page Design or Art board. Clicking Preferences doesn't change the color, dragging the Color Tool on to the png filel loaded does nothing. Would you please share a graphic image of the steps to take to accomplish this task? Also, once I've changed the background color how do I then paste that Hex code into the "Color Mixing Palette? Which is the color mixing palette? On the right I see Colors Swatches Stroke, under that RGB colors. Having a graphic of the color mixing palette and that text displaying the color mixing palette when you move the mouse over it would be helpful. Maybe there's a way to activate that display in Apub? Thank you. Quote
Dan C Posted June 13, 2022 Posted June 13, 2022 Hi Chasm, To create a coloured background on Affinity Publisher, Select the master page (1), create a rectangle (2) coloured and scaled to cover the page (3), lock the background layer (4). This will now apply to all created pages using this background colour, to add additional pages with different background colours, create new master pages and repeat the steps listed above. To view and alter the Colour Chooser, double click the selected colour (A) and enter the hex code (B) If you hold 'i' and drag your cursor around your screen you will see the selection update on the colour chooser. (this will work whether the colour chooser is in view or not). Hope this helps, Lee Quote
chasm Posted June 13, 2022 Author Posted June 13, 2022 Thank you so much for your detailed graphics and steps by step instructions. When I click on Master Pages > Add Master I get a pop up bi with many fields = Dimensions, Margins, Page Preset – do I need to tweak any of them? Also, when I copy and pasted the Hex Code into the Color Picker it changes the background form white to Mint in the Color Picker but not the actual background. After I paste the hex code I just pressed Close. Did I miss a step? Thank you again. Quote
Old Bruce Posted June 13, 2022 Posted June 13, 2022 A few things, you have a Text Frame selected, not the "background". So the colour may well be going to the text in that frame, not the whole frame. The Master Page would need a Rectangle covering it and that would need to selected in the layers panel for the colour to change. Plus, do you really want a red stroke applied? chasm Posted June 13, 2022 Author Posted June 13, 2022 Hi Old Bruce, I clicked on the Master Pages icon and chose Add a Master Page. I then used the mouse to draw a box over the whole screen in the middle. I then double clicked the Color Picker circle and in the # box I coped and pasted the Hex Number which then reveals as a Mint color in that circle. I then clicked on the padlock icon. I don't want any red in there and have no idea why it is in there. I'm wondering watch steps I missed or chose incorrectly. Thank you so much! Quote
firstdefence Posted June 13, 2022 Posted June 13, 2022 The red hoop is actually the option to have a coloured stroke, if you click on the hoop it will bring it to the front and then to remove the colour you just click on the little white circle with the red diagonal stripe, this indicates no colour/transparent. The colour picker icon can be ignored and will only change the fill or stroke colour if you click on the red disc to it's right. chasm Posted June 13, 2022 Author Posted June 13, 2022 I don't know how that red dot got in there in the 2st place. Errant mouse clcik? How do I get rid of it now? How do I avoid a repeat of this error? Can I toggle this "hoop" off so it isn't active? Thank you. Quote

By removing the colour info with the white circle with the red diagonal stripe effectively turns it off i.e. no colour, you cannot turn it off permanently. 7 minutes ago, chasm said: How do I get rid of it now? You don't, it will hold that colour until you select another colour. For future reference, you click and hold the left mouse button on the colour picker icon then while still holding the left mouse button move the cursor over the screen, it will give you RGB colour readouts if the document is set to an RGB profile, if the document is set to CMYK the colour picker will give you CMYK colour readouts, releasing the left mouse button selects the colour under the cursor at that time and the ink well will change. There is no way to hide it, the only option is to select a less distracting colour. I noticed you said you Make a new document then Make a Master/Parent page. Is the Master/Parent Page actually applied to the Actual page? This is what I get.
