Hi guys! So apparently, my client wants his page numbers spelled out in words. Not 1,2,...  but ONE, TWO ....

I looked at the Section Manager of the Pages panel but there doesn't seem to be a native way of doing this. None of the formatting of the Page Number field options allows for what he wants. Is there a trick to this or do I have to manually add these numbers? I'm not looking forward to that as an option...

Data Merge.

Not Data Merge but a text file with the words written out on separate lines then that text file placed into the Page Number Text Frame which is linked to the next Page Number Text Frame.

Post Script: Tell your client that according to Old Bruce his readers will curse him/her for insisting on this.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Well @Old Bruce ....  I'M cursing him already - that sounds like a LOT of work.

Show me a client you haven't cursed. Be honest now. [smiley face emoticon]

When the finalized document has 123456789012345678901234567890 pages, the client maybe changes his mind.

Is page 1234

"One Thousand Two Hundred and Thirty-four"

or

"Twelve Hundred and Thirty-four"?

– Instead of manually typing all words of spelled numbers maybe this helps:

Convert numbers into words
Excel doesn’t have a default function that displays numbers as English words in a worksheet, but you can add this capability by pasting the following SpellNumber function code into a VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) module.

Is it separate words in English? If yes, why the dash in thirty-four?
I'd expect them to be "onethousandtwohundredthirtyfour", looks more like a page number. 🤓

Great! Plus, without MS, a number generator first: https://textmechanic.com/text-tools/numeration-tools/generate-list-numbers/

Yes, it’s separate words, but when whole numbers between 0 and 99 are written in words they’re always either single (e.g. fourteen) or hyphenated (e.g. thirty-four).

Unlike German, English isn’t an agglutinative language, so we keep the words separate (e.g. „Zwetschgenkuchen“ is plum cake, not plumcake).

I had to look this word up and I'm still none the wiser, I'm still convinced Alfred typed this like Jimmy Hendricks played guitar

Ok thanks for those websites. I have the words for the page numbers. (Thankfully only 180 - sorry One Hundred and Eighty).

@Old Brucedo I put the text frames that are linked into the Master Page? I tried it and my Publisher crashed. (I have everything backed up just in case this time;)

After what action does it crash? Can you show a video of putting text frames and crash?

If you already have created all pages just paste the text into the accordingly linked master frame on page one and the text will flow. – If you want the page numbers auto-generate the required pages then paste the text in this frame and Shift-Click the triangular text flow symbol. Text flow and auto-generation of pages work independently of master pages, means also without a master page.

Thank you for this. I will try again. It crashed when I tried to link the text boxes together in the master page. However, I'll see what happens this time.
