release layer from group using keyboard in Photo [edit]

[edit] In Photo:[/edit]

How can I release a layer from a group using only the keyboard?

I do funky stuff with groups all the time. I hate using the mouse when I don't have to.

Extensive searching hasn't found anything useful. If I missed something let me know.

Arrange > Move Outside

But you have not said which app you are using so the menu command may be in another menu starting point

Hi @spinhead,

You can assign a custom Keyboard Shortcut to Layer > Arrange > Move Outside (Designer & Publisher) or Arrange > Move Outside (Photo) to achieve this :)

That's the ticket.

Puzzling that the context menu says "Release". Why would the same command have two different labels?

Two different commands that have the same function.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.2
Affinity Designer 2.3.1 | Affinity Photo 2.3.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.3.1 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Eh? Unless I'm missing something, that's a distinction without a difference. And still confusing.

Fair enough. What I meant was there is one function called by a Contextual Menu and another called by a Menubar Menu which can be assigned a Keyboard shortcut. They could be the same set of routines called or they could be different routines altogether. It is rather like taking two different roads to arrive a the same location, the directions are different but the destination is the same.

Does one have some functionality or ability or use that the other doesn't? Just trying to clarify if they are actually different tools, or if they really are exactly the same tool but with two different names based on which menu is in use.

I think it's a point of view. If I perform an operation on a given layer via the context menu, it is about releasing it from the group.
If I perform some operation on the selected layer (s) via the menu, then it is an operation of moving the layer (s) somewhere, including the inverse operation Move Inside, where would the name Release / Unrelease? it was rather confusing.

They "function" differently if you have a Designer document with an Artboard and objects on the Artboard

Based on that, there may be other times they function differently
