GWBodywork Posted June 3, 2022 Posted June 3, 2022 I am a new user to Affinity and testing it out as an alternative to the Adobe Suite. the suite of programs. I laid out a simple document with flowing text and placed images just to get familiar with this program. Now I can't select or edit the placed text on certain pages of a multipage document with a single master. The photos on those pages are selectable, but there are not even 'x' corners for the locked masters. This is only one of my frustrations in getting to know this software. I have been using Mac layout and design software since the late '80s startng with Indus Pagemaker, Quark, and every iteration of In-Design so this is not my first rodeo. Quote
walt.farrell Posted June 3, 2022 Posted June 3, 2022 Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, @GWBodywork. It would help if you'd provide a screenshot of the complete application window, and showing the page you're having problems with and the Layers panel. If you could provide a sample .afpub document with the problem that would be useful, too. How specifically are you placing the text on the page? With the page selected in the Pages panel, in the Layers panel is there am artistic text item with the "A" icon or frame text item with the "T" icon showing that corresponds to that text? If either one is there, is the visible checkbox ticked for it? GWBodywork Posted June 3, 2022 Author Posted June 3, 2022 Hi - Thanks Walt & RCR for your reply. I'm placing the text with the T as lines of text. It was all working fine yesterday and only showed up as a problem when I reopened it today. Pages 4, 6, 10 & 12 are the problem pages. Polyvagal-Blog_Handout.afpub Quote
GWBodywork Posted June 3, 2022 Author Posted June 3, 2022 I think it may have something to do with pages where I edited detached master pages. Quote

You locked some of the frames from the Master/Parent Page on some of the individual Actual Pages. I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

For example, on page 4, if you expand the Master A layer, and the Layer within it, the bottom text frame is Locked. Unlock it, and the frame content is selectable from the page. Alternatively, you can Select that frame layer in the Layers panel, then click in it on the page using the Frame Text Tool. GWBodywork Posted June 3, 2022 Author Posted June 3, 2022 Thank you so much! I'm starting to understand how Affinity handles Master pages. Can I ask a couple more questions? This document is set up in Facing Pages. What do I need to do for the text to flow properly when changing it to Single Page Layout? Some of the Headers are 2 lines. How do I change the Leading? In this case it's a 16pt font, I've dropped the leading way down to 5pts, but that doesn't change anything. I have 0pts before & after the lines. Tried a hard return, but nothing seems to affect the leading. Are there any good resources you can recommend (video, tutorials, etc.) for designers changing over from ID and trying to understand how AP handles common functions? Thanks again!! Quote

Instead, if you need single pages for a PDF export, just switch from "All Spreads" to "All Pages" when you Export it. But, to get proper text flow, when you setup the Facing Page Master, link the left-page Text Frame to the right-page Text Frame. Click on the lower right linking triangle for the left page Text Frame, then click in the Text Frame on the right page. 12 hours ago, GWBodywork said: Some of the Headers are 2 lines. If so, you could turn it off for that Text Style, which might accomplish what you want. 12 hours ago, GWBodywork said: Are there any good resources you can recommend (video, tutorials, etc.) for designers changing over from ID and trying to understand how AP handles common functions?
