Archangel
Bizzarely, both Publisher and Designer create a lot of crash dump files even though I haven't experienced any crashes but just close the apps normally. Anyone know why this happens? This is on Windows 10 64 bit.

v_kyr
Interesting that the apps, as you say, don't crash but but still do generate crash reports then. - Though it may be, that at runtime some specific MS context used DLL crashes without dragging the applications into the abyss then too here. - BTW some of the DLLs in the stack traces seem MS wise to be used for accessing/writing/updating registry entries, though can't tell if those are realy a culprit here or not. I hope the Serif team will take a look at these files at some point as my ssd will slowly fill up with them. It was only due to OO Defrag reporting new fie fragmentation that I noticed them in the first place. Although, Privazer will delete them. Staff stokerg Posted June 1, 2022 Staff Share Posted June 1, 2022 Hi @Michael S Harvey, The crash reports don't really tell us a great deal about why the app is crashing, other than the crash is in KERNALBASE.DLL So we can work out just when the crash is happening, if you open Affinity and close it, make a note of the time and check the crash reports folder is there a new report with same time as when you closed the app? I noticed that happened last night when I closed the app the time matched the crash report exactly. Yes, all I have to do is open and close the app to generate a new crash report that matches the time of closure.
v_kyr
You can tryout if Sysmon from Sysinternals (or ProcessExplorer) may recognize or show a service/event which may be the problem cause here. - Other than that you may also take a look through the by Win for apps generated error logs etc. (see this article for example). v_kyr
Then make a posting/thread related to your crash problems in one of the matching "<Affinity App> Bugs found on Windows" forum categories, aka ... Photo Bugs found on Windows Publisher Bugs found on Windows Designer Bugs found on Windows ... you might reference in a posting there to your thread here, or create a new one there, by describing the problem there and adding your dmp-files and all relevant informations. Chances are probably higher some Affinity dev will then take a look at this and then can hopefully throw one of your dmp stack traces through WinDbg/VS, in order to maybe tell you more concrete afterwards where the overall problem might lie here in your case! R C-R
1 hour ago, Michael S Harvey said: I'm waiting for V2 to appear now. According to a few rumors on the web V2 is supposed to be scheduled for release 'sometime in 2022' but it is not unusual for major version releases from any developer to be delayed due to unforeseen difficulties in getting new features to work without causing instabilities or too many bugs. So even if V2 is released before the end of the year, it is possible it will be lacking some new features that will be added in an update point release later on, much like some of the current features in V1 were not available in the early releases. IOW, the wait for some particular new feature could be a lot longer than one might expect.
