Need a mid-level digital image processing text

Hi all, new-ish user of Photo (mainly) and I love the software!

I also have the Serif hardback text for Affinity Photo which I like as a source, but I would really like to find another text that is more a straight-out, image-science-based, chapter-by-chapter, in-depth discussion of the many digital photo manipulations that we are doing to images, from topics such as brightness and contrast adjustment, to colour, tone and range, and the myriad of other changes that photographers make to images. Not how to do it with a particular application, but what making the adjustment with the slider or % adjustment is actually doing to the image pixels etc.

On one end of the range is the Affinity text that is very practical and project/real-world based, and then at the other end, there are texts that are fully mathematics of image control, and these are a bit too in-depth, as you might as well be writing code for a lot of this (more for the Affinity coders themselves!)

Does anyone know of a sort of mid-range text? I just want to have a set of chapters that present each manipulation that can be made (to pixels etc.) and get into some moderate depth with what we are actually doing when we adjust red, for example, but not excessively into actual mathematics and code.

Book titles, anyone?

We do not have a book similar to the Affinity Photo Workbook that describes the tools in Affinity Photo but we have a range of video tutorials on different techniques you can use in Affinity Photo and these can be viewed using this link and we also have a online help that goes into detail on all of the available tools and the settings in these tools and you can view this with this link
