Hi and welcome.

There are man storage locations (Photos, other local storage, cloud storage), and you may need to select a different option

https://affinity.help/photoipad/English.lproj/pages/GetStarted/placeImages.html

You may need to explicitly grant access permissions allowing Photo to access the Photo location.

So please check in what exact location you photo is stored, what name is used.

If unable to open from “place” menu, it could be simpler to use the iOS files app, and copy the photo to a dedicate location more easy to reach from AffinityPhoto.

I use iPad screenshots and videos even in the Desktop section of the forum when I expect no relevant difference.

If your work was in-progress (unsaved, and only in the application's home screen (sandbox)), or if you had only saved it in the location "on my iPad" then I'm afraid that deleting the application will also have deleted that work. If it was saved "on my iPad" then it might be recoverable from a backup of your iPad if you have one available.

It is important to save work, and to save it in some other location in your iPad file system.

So sorry but I don't understand any of what you have said. I have used affinity designer on my ipad for a long time and always have been able to place images. When I click on place image, it opens to my photos (also saved on icloud), but for some reason now I get just one photo in a box that says recent. What does it mean to "explicitly grant access permission" , what does that mean? Has something changed recently? It always worked fine.

As for my artwork, that was all saved elsewhere so it is no big deal.

In Settings, choose Affinity Photo. Then check if Access to All Photos is selected.

Then, iPad allows to “Optimize Storage”: save local storage by moving images automatically  the cloud. This could make photos unavailable for Apps like Affinity Photo.

I can’t provide screenshots for that as i disabled Photostream on my iPad.
