Alexhad Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 Hi all I have a big bugbear in Affinity designer and Photo. I'm working with various fonts and it's a pain to scroll thru the fonts and choose the right one as the dropdown font window only shows about 10 fonts at the time. It's really frustrating and very unproductive, I've seen that on Apple version shows the full length window when choosing fonts. I've attached a screenshot to show you what am I about and hopefully this can be either set to expand or if you guys at Affinity Serif have a solution for this. TIA Quote
firstdefence Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 Its showing less fonts because the search field has letters, remove the letters and the font list will grow. Pšenda Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 For me (Windows) is still 11 fonts. I don’t think the OP, at the point shown in their screenshot, is doing a search. Rather, it seems like they have clicked in the font name field and then clicked again to remove the selection. That is probably why the list of fonts is so long and includes fonts which would not show up in a search for that name. See attached screen-grab where I am not searching for Arial, it’s just that the name is showing in the field. As Pšenda said above, the Windows version of the software has a more restricted list than the MacOS version – this has been mentioned previously, e.g.: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/130361-font-list-on-screen/ I don’t know if this has been ‘formally’ reported in a Feedback thread. firstdefence Posted May 28, 2022 Posted May 28, 2022 Thanks @GarryP, I assumed that removing any text in there would display all available fonts and cursoring over them would show the font with the cursor over it in the search box. Seems illogical that windows would not display all fonts when that search box is clear. Try typing "te" and see how many fonts display because windows users will have more than 10 fonts with "te" in the name. Note: Ah just seen the scroll bar at the side of the text list doh! Cat keeps posting before I finish writing the post, apparently in cat world it's the most funnist fun you can have today jmwellborn 1 Quote iMac 27" 2019 Sequoia 15.0 (24A335), iMac 27" Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher V1 & V2, Adobe, Inkscape, Vectorstyler, Blender, C4D, Sketchup + more... PaulEC Posted May 28, 2022 Posted May 28, 2022 It doesn't matter what (if anything) you type in the search box, in Windows it only ever displays a maximum of 11 lines. It would be much more useful if it either opened to the full height of the screen, or if you could manually extend it. I cannot see any logical reason why you would want to restrict the font list and add a scroll bar at the side. Come on Affinity you can do better than this. Alexhad Posted May 28, 2022 Author Posted May 28, 2022 Thanks for the input guys, my point as PaulEC said is that the maximum font number displayed in the font dropdown window is 11. Now this is quite ridiculous for such advanced software and in my opinion an overlook by Serif. It is very annoying when you have over 200 fonts and and have to stare at the screen because the font window is so small. Affinity, can you please fix this! I mean Windows users are shorthanded here and very important for designers who work with text on a daily basis. Mr. Sam 1 Quote
iconoclast Posted May 28, 2022 Posted May 28, 2022 It is the same by the way with the dropdown menues in the Characters and Glyphs Panels. Not very convenient. Alexhad and PaulEC 2 Quote

Are there other places in the Windows versions where the dropdown menus are limited to just 11 items even when there is more than enough screen space to show more of them without having to scroll? AFAIK, in the Mac versions the only limit is the available screen space. There are a few places in a few of the panels in the Mac versions where scrolling with a mouse scroll wheel is not supported, but I think that is the only bug there is in that part of the UI.
