ALaust
I have a license, which I purchased for freelance/sole trading work. I now have a full-time job in addition to said freelancing. Can I use my licence on my work laptop (owned by the company, controlled by me) for commercial use, whilst still having it installed on my personal laptop for both personal and ongoing sole trader use? Staff SFurniss Posted May 27, 2022 Staff Share Posted May 27, 2022 @ALaust As long as you are the only person using the software, that's fine. You need to buy a separate Windows version to install on Windows or a Mac version to install on the Mac. Each version is purchased independently and each has its own licenses. You can install the Windows version on as many PCs as you personally control. Likewise the Mac version can be installed on as many Macs as you control. Previous discussions about this have suggested that the word “controlled” is included to cover the situation where a company leases their equipment instead of buying it outright, and that even if an employee has day-to-day control of a computer it’s still the employer who “controls” it for licensing purposes (and therefore the employer needs to purchase a licence). Chakra
So in summary of this original question...If I buy a personal license, it is valid only on a computer or a number of computers that the purchaser owns. However, when such a purchaser uses a computer provided by an organization/company/business then the organization/company/business should purchase a license to use on their computer. This means that personally purchased licenses are only allowed to be used on personal devices owned by the purchaser and not valid on computer owned by a business or an organization. Is this understanding correct? Thank you.

Staff SFurniss Posted June 23, 2022 Staff Share Posted June 23, 2022 Apologies, I can see my earlier answer caused confusion. Business licenses are generally only provided for larger enterprises buying licenses in bulk. As a result small companies and sole traders will buy personal licenses via our website. Although these are personal licenses they are still provided with commercial rights. The nature of small business and sole traders often means these licenses are used for a mix of commercial and personal use. We have no objections to this. While you are free to use your license commercially for your freelance work, if you are also wanting to use the license within a separate business, that business will need to order a separate license for you to use on your work machine. Apologies for the incorrect information in my earlier response, and apologies also for the delay in getting back to you with further clarification on this. walt.farrell and Alfred
ParkerJackson
Hello. What if I have a business license as a freelancer and I decide to create a physical business. Do I have to make a new license or can I use the one I had?

Do I have to make a new license or can I use the one I had? Your license is good for you to use as you wish, on as many computers of the same platforms y (Mac, Windows, iPad) as you own or control. You would only need additional licenses if you had multiple computers of different platforms, or if additional people (not just you) are going to use the applications for commercial purposes. All right. In that sense, I understand better. So I would have to pay for a new license so that each member of the team could use it on his computer.
