I have recently purchased Affinity Photo, which worked really well, besides a couple of crashes. However, out of the sudden, I can no longer create new files nor load existing ones.

For creating new files, nothing happens in general. When loading existing files, nothing happens (not even the message in the top right corner appears) but when I try to close the programm, I'm greeted with the attached image. When I try to close the program after trying to create a new file, the process still lingers around and I need to kill it with the Task Manager.

Now comes the interesing part: the issue appeared around the same time I installed a trial version of Affinity Designer - and it has precisesly the same issues: No creating of files, no loading of files and being unable to close the program without the task manager.

I've already tried all of the options suggested in the following thread:

  • reinstalling the software
  • resetting the configuration (ctrl + left click -> clear)
  • deleting all of the files under %AppData%
  • switching off hardware accelaration

Right now I have no clue where to continue. Any help would be appreciated :)

I'm on Windows 11 Home / Version 21H2 / Build 22000.675

Hi @sirdink,

Welcome to the forum

When you installed Affinity Photo and Designer where they installed to common folder location or do they have there own unique folder location

thanks for the welcome!

I did not change anything regarding the installation location. I.e., Photo is installed in C:\Program Files\Affinity\Photo, Designer in C:\Program Files\Affinity\Designer.

@DWright do you an idea of what might be causing this?

I've now also tried creating a new Windows Account - under this account I can still load files. I even didn't have to install Photo again on that account. So there must be something I can do to get it working again on my main account?
