Hello! I've just bought today the Affinity Designer, having been using for several years the Affinity Photo. After installing Designer, I was confused when I opened it, and though it seems to be working fine, it shows on the almost top left corner a box ( under the "Assets" tab ) with an "iOS 12" written in it ( screen capture below ) while I'm running Windows Pro 11! Did I download the wrong software?

No, you did not download the wrong version. The iOS assets are included in both the Mac & Windows versions of AD. You should be able to delete that Assets category if you never want to use any of them.

(I have a Mac but since I do not design anything for iOS, I have deleted all but a small subset of them.)

All 3 1.10.8, & all 3 V2.6 Mac apps (currently 2.6.4); 2020 iMac 27"; 3.8GHz i7, Radeon Pro 5700, 32GB RAM; macOS 10.15.7

Before deleting a category you can export it. (e.g. for any later use)
The export interface may appear a bit confusing because it sounds to export all Assets, without mentioning your selected category.

I'm not sure why Serif decided to include this particular set of Assets, but I suppose there's no reason why someone using Windows shouldn't want to design something for iOS. Also, some of these Assets could be used for other things, so they are not completely useless for Windows users! 🙂

Not to mention that iOS 12 is quite out of date.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

After the windows versions came out they simply added those to the installer to be consistent with the mac version.

One inconsistency is that some of the assets use fonts which are only supplied with macOS.

Actually, some of the fonts are only available (legally) directly from Apple, not supplied with the OS itself, & licensed only for iOS app development mockup work.

So since that includes people doing iOS development work on Windows, it sort of makes sense to include those assets even in the Windows version of Affinity.

Thank you very much for heads up ,didn't know that but then again I don't use those assets.

You’re welcome, @Hens, but as you can see from @R C-R’s post I slightly misspoke:
