I really like using the Command/Scroll feature in Affinity Photo to zoom on images.

Sometimes I find myself inadvertently holding down Option instead of Command and accidently rotating the canvas. User error.

Thus far I have not discovered a way to "undo" the move (other than painstakingly trying to re-rotate the canvas by eye).

Command Z doesn't work. Shift Option Scroll doesn't lock one into 90 degree angles.

Other than being more careful, are there any tips for undoing an undesired rotation?

Thanks,

Bill

Does View > Reset Rotation do what you want?

Hi @William Cartwright,

Unfortunately as you've found, rotating the canvas doesn't add a History 'step', so this cannot be undone using the CMD + Z shortcut - however as above you should be able to reset the rotation using the menu option, or the shortcut CMD + CTRL + SHIFT + R.

Alternatively, if you navigate to Affinity Photo > Preferences > Tools you can untick Enable canvas rotation with CMD + scroll wheel and this should stop the canvas rotating accidentally.

I hope this helps :)

Sorry for the late response, but your tip worked.

Thank you very much @R C-R

@Dan C if "rotation" could be added to the history step (and therefore CMD-Z reversible) in future releases, I'd be grateful.

You are just changing the view of the document, not anything in the document itself. So just like changing the view by zooming in or out, there is nothing shown in the History panel, & nothing in the document itself to undo.

This rotation doesn't change the document content, which is why it doesn't get added to History (and wouldn't be appropriate to add). It only changes how you're looking at the document.

Then I wish Option/Scroll to "rotate" the canvas was removed as a "feature" (or was at least deselectable by a user).

I find it easy to accidentally rotate the canvas myself. At least I learned from you how to undo it.

If in Preferences > Tools I enable "Use mouse wheel to zoom" this disables using CMD + scroll to rotate the canvas if that option is set, but for me there seems to be no way to rotate the canvas by using the Option key, with or without using the scroll wheel.

My mistake. I should have said CMD + scroll (not Option + scroll).

I did follow your advice went to Preferences > Tools and was able to turn off the Enable rotation with CMD + scroll wheel and that did the trick.

Thank you very much!
