Refine Selection tool keeps glitching

I'm ready to bang my head against a wall with this issue 😅 I have used the refine selection tool in the past with no issues but recently it keeps glitching as soon as I go to being to clean up the edges. I can do my basic selection, click "Refine" and it shows up as normal, with the red background. All is fine and dandy until I go to actually start cleaning up the edges and it reverts back to the original image, and no matter which option I pick (overlay,black background, transparent, etc), it will not show any changes and remains looking like the original image.

I have tried re-starting the program with no success and I just don't know what else I need to do to fix it or if I am missing some silly detail that is causing it to glitch like this?

Ahhh that's exactly what I'm dealing with! Going to try those suggestions and hope for the best 🤞🏻

Welp,  I am having the same problem again, but this time, turning the data acceleration thing off isn't fixing it. I am racing against a project deadline and the fact that I cannot get the refine selection tool to work is really giving me some serious anxiety. 

Any new developments in terms of other ways to resolve this issue??!!
