As per the thread title.

Replication: Open any image file; File -> Export; Select output type (or leave unchanged); Click Export button; Change filename (or leave unchanged); Click Save button.

At this point, the original file is now flagged as "Modified" and  attempting to close it brings up another dialogue box that shouldn't have opened in order to save or ignore the non-existent change. Makes no difference what file type is opened, what type is saved or if the filename is changed.

It's not the most serious bug in the world but a bug it definitely is and quite irritating too if you use AP to do a lot format conversion with many files.

AD does the same...

The file has been modified, as you can see if you look at the History panel. Specifically, the export settings have been updated, so they are available the next time you choose to export it.

It may not be a visible change to the image content of the file, but it is a change to the file itself.

Many users have complained about this, but it is working as it was designed to work, as any change in the file History marks the file as modified. There are feature requests to improve this.

Thank you for getting back on this so promptly. Prior to posting I had a quick look to see if the bug had been reported but had found nothing much but further searching has turned revealed previous inquiries.

I think that my issue is that exporting a file should not constitute a change to any of its content  and unexpected behaviour such as this is seen as a bug when in fact it is not but more of a design flaw. I'd support the requests to improve this behavior.

You're welcome.

By the way, I have several other applications that behave this way with Printing an otherwise unchanged document, as the Print settings are saved within the document. So this design paradigm is not something unique to the Affinity applications.
