Hi everyone,

I have been searching on the forum, but I cannot find this question.

I have recently downloaded Affinity on my iPad, I shoot my photos with the iPhone and they are in Heic, Affinity open them no problem, but I would like to save them in Heic, but the option is not there. So my question is what is the best format to save them so I don't loss any quality, as I think JPG is not the best option, I am considering either Tiff or PNG.

I store them in a Synolgy NAS which support either of them.

Thanks in advance.

Png with RGB/16 is a good way.

  • lossless compression
  • 16 bit color depth
  • supports transparency.
  • wide support on all current browser / devices

Unfortunately, the depth map cannot be saved in PNG. Keep your originals!

Tiff:

  • lossless compression
  • no transparency
  • 16 bit color depth
  • Ability to store store embedded Affinity documents (with layers and all glory), but more risks to shoot you into your own foot as most other Apps only read the flattened image, and data may get lost when editing the files in other apps.
  • good compatibility (when you restrict yourself to basic features)
  • Some features are not well supported by apps, e.g. multiple pages in one file.
  • Affinity doesn't let you control compression parameters.

I use iPad screenshots and videos even in the Desktop section of the forum when I expect no relevant difference.
