kochy25 Posted May 10, 2022 Posted May 10, 2022 I open some Parts of a PDF File (48 Pages, 2,8 MB File Size) and this File slows the Designer very much down, The Program crashes very often down or freeses. Same File works in pdf24 and acrobat reader very well. Next Problem: The Objekts in the File in Designer appears 25% smaller than they have to. In PDF 24 and acrobat are the objekts in the right Size. Where is the Problem in Designer? Quote

The 96 DPI/PPI is a Windows thing, the 72 DPI/PPI is a PDF thing. Your comparison with pdf24 and acrobat reader is rather useless here if you don't place but "open" the PDF because Affinity is accessing the file content in a different and editable way. Then it would need more info about the specific pages of the PDF or its upload to the forum for a closer view. 3 hours ago, kochy25 said: Next Problem: The Objekts in the File in Designer appears 25% smaller than they have to. Unfortunately, container file formats such as PDF are currently treated this way by Affinity, even if they contain only vector data. kochy25 Posted May 10, 2022 Author Posted May 10, 2022 I have tried something: I have saved the pdf file under an other name. I don't know why - but that have fixed all the problems. The Objekt appears in the right size. And affinity works quite fast compared to the file before. Does anyone have some explanation for that????? Quote

Which application was the creator of the PDF? How do you saved it anew? I do know that saving again from Acrobat can fix some problems. kochy25 Posted May 11, 2022 Author Posted May 11, 2022 I have used "PDF24" . I only opened the file in that program and saved a filename2.pdf. that's all. I don't have to understand that. Quote

PDF is a so called "container" file format because it may contain different sorts of file types – similar to a movie file format which contains for instance images + sound + subtitle texts. Different PDF readers or writers respect or ignore different capabilities of the PDF format. Also, some save the format in a different way than others. This can result in different file contents, even though two PDF files may look visually identical. Resaving a PDF file can clean bits and pieces of the file, such as changing its order or structure. Resaving can also eliminate certain content and thus reduce the file size. – So what exactly happened to your PDF file and what caused your problems in Affinity depends on those factors which are handled differently by different apps – apart from Affinity – and thus would require to know the whole chain of creation and save actions including the settings and capabilities of the modifying steps. It can be interesting to see how complex the PDF format was initially specified – in the sake to deliver maximum flexibility. This document describes the various aspects of PDF version 1.7 quite detailed on 750 pages, with 'simple' words (no actual coding instructions). https://www.adobe.com/content/dam/acom/en/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/PDF32000_2008.pdf Quote macOS 10.14.6 | MacBookPro Retina 15" | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1
