The Feature help page says you can use global colors in Gradient Map Adjustment (even on iPad, where it is not available at all).

While it is true that you can use any (single color) swatch, this feature falls far behind expectations when using global colors: It will not react to changes (edits) of that global color.

I'm almost sure that Affinity might rate this as "feature request", never the less, the documentation should be a bit more explicit. Mentioning global colors and Gradient Map explicitly in one sentence will otherwise mislead the users.

  • Works as designed on Desktop.
  • Unavailable on iPad.

Well, you have to use swatches to have and use Global colors.

But when you assign them to a Gradient Map, they will not reflect changes to the Global colors, as @NotMyFault mentioned above.

A Gradient Fill (not Gradient Map) will respond to changes in Global colors that you used to construct the Gradient. However, in my recent testing if you change a global color that was used as part of a Gradient Fill, the entire Fill is changed to that new color, and you lose the Gradient.

@Hens: you are working on Windows. On Mac, it seems to be broken.

For me, the difference is that I wasn't using an Image layer, as @Hens showed. When I apply the Gradient Map to an Image layer, it does work.

Layer 8 Issue. The colors I added where not really global, despite using "add global color". I tried to add them as application palette.After using a document palette, it works.

case closed.

I created an Application palette first, and called it "global colors". Then I intended to click "add global color", but maybe hit the "add fill color" symbol using a faulty shortcut, creating a regular fill color without noticing. After several attempts, it finally created a new "Document" palette and a global color.
