I am new to Affinity Designer/Photo and just trying to create some slices from a simple graphic.  So I have a background layer with an image.  I have created some rectangular objects over the top of the background image with a fill colour and that then apply a layer opacity of 50 to so that the background layer is visible through the rectangle object.

If I then go to the export persona and create a slice from the rectangle object it creates a slice that has the rectangle with the original fill colour with no opacity and therefore the layer below is not visible.

If I manually create a rectangular slice in the export persona of the combined background and 50% opacity rectangle then the slice is as I would expect - showing the combination.

Why is this?  Can I create a slice from an object and have it apply the combination of visible effects as if it was flattened?

I've tried applying the opacity on the colour fill, the layer and on the Effects->Fill Opacity but no joy.

Many thanks in advance.

If you create a Slice manually, it borders and then exports the entire view of the canvas location, that is, all the layers and objects in that location. However, if you select a layer / object in the Layers of the Export Person panel, only that layer will be included in the export - not what is above or below it.

The problem is not that the 50% transparency of the rectangle is not taken into account when exporting, but that the bottom layer is simply not exported.

Try encapsulating the rectangle and the bottom layer in a group (clipping background image to rectangle) before creating a slice (from the group, not from the rectangle).
