First Hardcover I'm working with in Publisher. What's the best way to go about making Endsheets?

"The endsheet at the front of the book with printing across the spread is called “F2-F3”. If the back side of the front endsheet also has printing this spread is called “F4-F1”. On the back of the front endsheet panel F1 plus 3/16 inches of F4 will be covered with glue. The endsheet at the back of the book with printing across the spread is called “B2-B3”. If the front side of the back endsheet also has printing this spread is called “B4-B1”. On the front of the back endsheet panel B4 plus 3/16 inches of B1 will be covered with glue. The 3/16 inch glue strip area is used to attach the interior pages to the cover."

The main difference between Endsheets and pages is that they are always used as 2-page-spreads, are not imposed for production like pages of spreads and don't get cut to page size after printing.

Thus it appears useful to create them in a separate .afpub, not with the spreads and pages of the book. This helps to avoid confusion with page numbers, sections and correct export. Actually, if they are in the same layout document as the book pages, you would have to export the endsheets in a separate PDF file anyway, as you cannot mix spreads with single pages when exporting.

If your layout shows colour on those pages of the endsheets that will get partially glued, it makes sense to exclude this areas from colour/printing, with some bleed to avoid unwanted paper white.

Often endsheets are not printed at all but only a different type of paper is used. In this case it would not be really necessary to create a layout file or a production PDF.

Thanks again Thomaso. I figured it'd be an additional file and I wouldn't need to be jamming multiple dimension pages against each other. Seemed.. odd, if not impossible. I'll talk to the publisher more and keep running under that more clear cut auspice you present.

In fact there is the option in APub to layout pages with differing dimensions in one document. This way you could layout the endsheets on pages with double width together with the book's content on facing pages. An exported PDF could contain the endsheets + the spreads as single pages, both in correct size. But still, for production the file would need to get split at some stage to avoid the endsheets being included in the imposed pages of the book content.
