CaveTroll Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 I don't understand how it is possible that I have one particular jpg which I can open in paint, windows photos just fine, but when I open it in affinity photo - it just shows me a blank canvas as if the whole thing was transparent. If i open it in MS paint I can save it as png and open it ok in Affinity photo when it is a png. Quote
Staff Callum Posted May 4, 2022 Staff Posted May 4, 2022 Hi CaveTroll, If possible could you provide a copy of the JPG file in question so I can look into this further? Thanks C Quote Please tag me using @ in your reply so I can be sure to respond ASAP.

joe_l Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 This won't help as the forum software processes the image during upload. Best is to zip the image. Quote ---------- Windows 10 / 11, Complete Suite Retail and Beta

So bizarre, show I know nothing of what a jpeg is composed of, never knew it was broken up into "layers" that can be selected/deselected. Quote
Staff MEB Posted May 4, 2022 Staff Posted May 4, 2022 Hi @CaveTroll, Those lines are just a bunch of paths (vertical and horizontal) that Photoshop stores in the Paths panel (probably used as helpers to create the illustration) that are imported as masks nested to the image layer in Affinity. Since these lines do not enclose an area (are not closed shapes) Affinity can't display anything inside them (they have no width) thus the image appears empty (because when it's imported the first line/mask is enabled). Disabling the line that's acting as a mask does fix the issue. If you select just the line/mask that's enabled and set a stroke width you will see the image appearing inside the stroked area.
