When saving, I can't see an option to also show the file extension. I find this very useful, to immediately identify the file creator while in the Finder.

I would like to have a checkbox in the Save dialog, or a general preference, to make it appear if desired.

As far as I know, Paolo, that is not a setting that the application can control.  Affinity appliations will provide the extension automatically when saving/exporting, but when you're in a Finder dialog then Finder is entirely in charge of whether file extensions are shown, or not.

Or do I misunderstand your request? (I'm not a Mac user, only Windows and iPad.)

There are apps showing an option, in the Save dialog, to show or hide the extension.

Then, there are apps (most of them, I would say) including the extension in the Name field when saving.

Unfortunately, Affinity apps don't have the one or the other, so (at least here on Mojave) the files are by default saved with no extension.

Thanks. I agree that something better should be provided than that.

Really "saved" without extension? Or is the file extension just "not displayed" when saving?

Hi @PaoloT,
Open a Finder window, go to menu Finder > Preferences and tick Show all filename extensions. The extension should then appear in the Save dialog in Affinity.

MEB, thank you, but unfortunately this is not a viable solution. There are things for which one wants to see the extension, and others for which it is not desirable. Forcing it in for all the files results in a mess.

I always show all extensions. I have often wondered why anyone would want to hide extensions.

Ever since I started using Windoze I’ve wondered why anyone at Micro$oft thought it a good idea to hide extensions by default. It just makes it easier for someone with malicious intent to distribute a piece of malware with an innocent-looking name like ‘pretty-pic.jpg’ (real name ‘pretty-pic.jpg.exe’).

@MEB Your suggestion solved my issue. Thanks! And sorry for the double-post. New here and just figured out how to add a quote to my reply, but haven't figured out how to delete my previous post yet.

You can't delete it but you can hide it for others (except for the moderating team) via the "…" button on the right top of your post.

@Oufti Thanks, but when I click on the ... menu, The only options I see are Report, Share, and Edit, and when I click Edit, I don't see any way to hide it from there either.

ETA: Nevermind, after refreshing the page, I'm able to see it now. Thanks again!!

Perhaps because it is already hidden(by a staff member?)

It was an issue with the way my screen was displaying the menu. It wasn't letting me scroll down to see "Hide," but after refreshing the page, I was able to find it.
