Quality of embedded image in exported PDF

Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to export a document as a PDF for print. The document has an embedded image in it and when I export the file I lose quality in just the image the is embedded, everything else looks fine.
If it makes any difference, the image that’s embedded is being used as a fill within font that has been converted to curves.
Is there a setting to look out for when I'm exporting?

Hi @Fortcon

Welcome to the forum. 

In the export settings window, if you select the file type then 'More', can you set Rasterize to 'Nothing' and see if that resolves your issue.

Hi @EmT I've tried that and it doesn't seem to do anything in improving the quality of the embedded image. All the other elements (text, curves, etc.) are good quality, it's just the image within the file that's lower resolution. I've created the same file in Illustrator & saved the file as a PDF through there & the quality is better.

Could you send a screenshot of your export settings for comparison? 

If you could also attach the file you are working on that would be a great help.

Thanks, I've attached a screenshot of my export settings and a simple version of my file (also, would you know why the file size is so large? The same file in Illustrator is about 20MB)

I've just edited my previous post and added the file.

The file formats are designed differently between apps so you will see a difference in file sizing. 

There is not an embedded image in the file attached. 
What is the DPI of your embedded image?

I guess Fortcon means the Bitmap fill which is too much upscaled for my taste.

Sorry, I probably didn’t phrase it correctly, I meant the image used in the fill. The DPI of the image I used is 300DPI, the same as the document DPI. I’ve also just tried placing an image onto the centre of the art board and exporting as both a PDF and JPG, and that image also comes out a bit pixelated.
