Software crashes when creating new layer while brush tool is in use

While actively using the paint/erase brush tool, creating a new layer crashes the software. Can be reproduced by pressing shift-command-N (New Layer shortcut) while the brush is actively being used (clicked in) with a mouse, but in my case I have the New Layer shortcut mapped to a Wacom Pro Pen 2 side button, which I accidentally press on occasion while the pen is touching the tablet, thus crashing the software in the middle of drawing. The software crashes with a red screen when fullscreen, but just closes when the window is not full screen. Using Affinity Photo version 1.10.5; and this has happened to me on macOS versions prior to 12.3.1. I am using an Intel iMac.
